Abstract:
This is a phytosociological study of the orophilous scrub growing on the main mountain ranges of Central Chile, all of which have Mediterranean climate conditions. Our sampling covered the land stripe of the 32nd parallel south, from the Coastal Cordillera to the foothills of the Andean Cordillera, in the region of Valparaíso. The floristic composition and the variety observed as a result of bioclimatic, edaphic and biogeographical differences suggest the existence of 5 different plant associations. We propose a new phytosociological class Ephedro chilensis-Chuquiragetea oppositifoliae to include these five and others that may possibly exist along the Mediterranean Andes. We provide phytosociological tables with the floristic composition of the 5 associations highlighting the bioindicator species. We propose new syntaxa in hierarchical order (alliance, order and class) and select the characteristic species of each unit. Finally, we also provide a phytogeographical catalogue of all the flora recognized for this new class. Autores: Francisco Javier Amigo Vázquez, Lorena Flores Toro
